PRE- AND POST- NATAL PILATES

We’re passionate about supporting pregnant and post-natal women. If you are pregnant, you can enjoy Pilates every day at our studios in Claremont and Applecross (please read below). We have two pathways for you if you’re pregnant:

  1. If you are new to the studio, first attend a private Pilates session in order to join our regular group classes (see below).
  2. Enjoy private Pilates sessions throughout your pregnancy.

If you’re thinking about conceiving, Pilates and yoga are great ways to improve your fitness, strengthen your body and destress. Exercise is a great starting point for living a healthier lifestyle and therefore may aid in fertility. Ideally, you should continue the exercise you have been doing in the lead up to your pregnancy, while you are pregnant. So the earlier you begin with us the better.

PREGNANCY PILATES

EXISTING CLIENTS

If you’re an existing client, you can continue to attend any of our classes up to and including 15 weeks. Please follow the recommendations of your health professionals regarding exercise.

From 16 weeks, we need to modify exercises for your safety and the safety of your baby (see below).

IF YOU’RE PREGNANT AND NEW TO THE STUDIO

If you’re pregnant and new to the studio, please complete a Private session before joining group classes.  We will show you the modifications which will allow you to exercise safely and confidently in the group classes.

The group classes that are suitable when you’re pregnant are:

  • Technique Reformer
  • Physique Reformer
  • Pilates Beats

Please note that Sweat Reformer, Jumpboard Reformer and Vinyasa Flow are not suitable for pregnancy.

IF YOU’RE POSTNATAL

Once you have had the okay from your obstetrician or GP at your 6 week postnatal check, you can return to group classes. We recommend you ease back into exercise with gentle walks and restart with us with Technique Reformer.

PREGNANCY PILATES PERTH

If you have any queries, give us a call or email us.  If you’re postnatal, we also recommend a women’s health Physio check to see if you’re doing any pelvic floor exercises and chest lifts correctly.

Please only attend Sweat Reformer once you feel you do not require any modifications (e.g. able to chest lift with legs in tabletop easily).
